Our grifter president once again proves that he cares little about anyone or anything but himself, his self-aggrandizement and self-enrichment. His inability to make a sympathy call with the appropriate sincerity and grace illustrates his basic lack of inner-strength and empathy. His need to lie on Monday about his and his predecessors calls to the survivors of our fallen soldiers and then about what was actually said in that call is abhorrent and beneath the accepted norms of office of the presidency. Trump’s baseless accusations against a black congresswoman who in fact had been a decades-old intimate friend of the fallen soldier’s family sadly typifies the fact-free aggressively defensive behavior of this president.  The events depicted above make it clear that there is not one single objective evaluative measurement by which this president meets even the most basic criteria of appropriate behavior, necessary leadership or level of accomplishment necessary for success. His failure to perform, as well as his wholesale disregard of accepted protocols, institutions and relationships has placed this nation and our allies in danger. The unprecedented remarks made recently by Presidents Obama and Bush as well Vice President Biden and Senators McCain and Corker must be accepted as unmistakable warnings of great impending jeopardy. Never has it become more important to speak out and actively work for the defeat of Republicans. Their benign acceptance and then active support of both his candidacy and behavior is responsible for the current state of our nation. No honest congressional investigation or impeachment action can take place with a Republican majority. 2018 is our chance to change that. For the sake of our nation, and indeed the world, we can’t afford to lose this opportunity.

Well, we’re about to face another week of Trump. While there is no shortage of issues to be concerned about, it is important to focus on the totality of his efforts rather than any single act. It is clear that his goal is two-fold. First, he is doing everything he can to destroy the Obama legacy and all that it represents. Second, he is working to abide by Bannon’s goal to “dismantle the administrative state” and the Republican establishment in its wake. Destruction doesn’t require a grand and brilliant strategy. A wrecking ball is not an instrument used for surgical precision. It may be used for indiscriminate and impulsive action as long as it doesn’t deviate from the broader goals.  Naturally, these two very important goals are subservient to the overriding themes of his life….survival, self-enrichment and self-aggrandizement. He is the head of the Trump Family Grifters. He defines this role in everything he does. Don’t get entangled in the details. We need to view all that he does through these lenses.

Another Saturday morning and another week of Trump-created chaos behind us. Iran, North Korea, Tillerson, the NFL, birth control, healthcare, Russian election tampering, Trump/Russian collusion, historic gun violence/gun control, and taxes are just the tip of the iceberg. The rest of this monstrous iceberg is the complete and total incompetence of Trump and his band of malcontents and their inability to deal effectively with any of these issues. Congress’ paralysis is but one example of what is occurring throughout government. It is clear that Trump is moving to fulfill Bannon’s vision of the deconstruction of the administrative state. This belief, that less government is better, has lead to the rush towards deregulation and the hollowing-out of executive departments. In line with this the requirements of international business dictate American foreign policy as a strong military protects American interests. Government exists to protect business interests, not citizen interests. Our democracy has turned into a plutocracy dominated by the Trump Family Grifters.
